BIG ISLAND HAWAII - NA'ALEHU THEATRE - picture photo Hawaii Art Gallery - Big Island Hawaii photo picture photograph art - This colorful picture is a photo of the Na'alehu Theatre (or Naalehu Theatre) in the Kau District on The Big Island of Hawaii on the main street of town, Mamalahoa Highway, in the town of Na'alehu. This vintage theatre was constructed in 1940 and showed movies for many years. It was abandoned for a while and fairly recently has re-opened as a museum and, on occasion, weekend movie theatre, showing old classic films. The Art-Deco facade is quite unique as the Big Island Hawaii Naalehu Theatre was built right at the end of the Art Deco Period. This historic old Big Island Hawaii Na'alehu Theatre has been colorfully decorated, as we can see in this Big Island Hawaii picture photo and also has a giant sea turtle painted on the roof. The Na'alehu Theatre in Hawaii is a remnant of a simpler time where neighborhood and corner theatres reigned instead of the generic 'multiplexes' now found in many urban areas of The Islands, as well as on the mainland. It's claim has been that it is the Southernmost movie house in the U.S.--and maybe it still is!
