PEWABIC POTTERY photo picture photograph - The Historic Pewabic Pottery Building picture photo at 10125 E. Jefferson Ave. Detroit, Michigan. Pewabic Pottery is a living treasure and offers visitors an exciting glimpse of a little known part of American history. Founded in 1903 during the Arts & Crafts Movement, Pewabic is nationally renowned for its tile and pottery in unique glazes. Today it is a non profit ceramic art education center which welcomes 70,000 visitors annually. Aside from a wonderful working museum, Pewabic Pottery also has a wonderful retail space where the work of the artists who work at Pewabic is represented. There is also a small select group of other fine potters whose work is showcased and available for sale in the retail gift gallery as well. Tours, lectures and classes are also available. This landmark is a 'must see' for anyone interested in historic or contemporary pottery.
This color photo is made from an original black and white photograph that has been hand-colored by nationally recognized award winning artist/photographer Jan Kaulins. The Pewabic Pottery Building is one of the more recent additions to The Detroit Photo Gallery.
