TIN MAN of OZ New Orleans Mardi Gras float
by Jan Kaulins
TIN MAN of OZ New Orleans Mardi Gras parade float warehouse post-Katrina remnant picture photo art print for sale - This iconic New Orleans color TIN MAN OF OZ Mardi Gras Parade float character fine -art artist signed and numbered Limited Edition New Orleans photo print for sale is made from AN ORIGINAL BLACK AND WHITE NEW ORLEANS PHOTO THAT HAS BEEN HAND-COLORED and printed by nationally recognized award winning artist/photographer Mr. Jan Kaulins. Hand-coloring the black and white original photos is a very old tradition in photography, and is rarely seen anymore. None of the work showcased here is done digitally. The artistic hand-coloring of the black and white New Orleans original photos visually ties in nicely with the New Orleans architectural images color photo art theme prints.
Mardi Gras Parades and floats have a long and rich history in the traditions of New Orleans. The many Mardi-Gras floats used in the parades are housed in several very large warehouses. There they are renovated and often changed for the following season. When Katrina hit with hurricane winds one of the largest such warehouse storage facilities that housed the floats and the figures created to go on these floats, was near the bridge before you enter the Ninth Ward. It was dramatically impacted by the high winds and gales, taking most of the sheet metal roofs off the the large sheds and destroying many of the large one-of-a-kind papier mache characters that rode on the Mardi Gras Parade floats. I visited there several months after the devastation and took many photos. This photo of The Tin Man laying on the floor from The Wizard of Oz float is one of the four images I decided to print for my New Orleans hand-colored photo art Gallery. His bright eyes are blue and the bright red heart that he received from the Wizard Of Oz hangs from his metallic chest. It is a visually haunting, yet reflective image, and reminder of the power of nature. You can see the other three images on this website as well.

| The quality of the Jan Kaulins' photographic prints is much higher than we can show within limits of this web site. Slight tonal changes and blurring around the areas of strong contrast are a result of the JPEG compression process, and are not part of the high quality originals. |
