STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE New Orleans art photo print picture for sale - This classic New Orleans streetcar photo art print is of the front of one of the original New Orleans Streetcars that ran on the Desire route and has since been retired from service. Many people know the title of Tennessee Williams literary work titled "A Streetcar Named Desire" that was derived from this New Orleans streetcar line. Tennessee Williams (March 26, 1911 – February 25, 1983) was an American playwright who received many of the top theatrical awards. He moved to New Orleans in 1939 and changed his name to "Tennessee", the state of his father's birth.

He won the Pulitzer Prize for Drama for A Streetcar Named Desire in 1948 and for Cat on a Hot Tin Roof in 1955. Williams lived in New Orleans when he began writing 'Streetcar' in 1947. This is a wonderful artistical photo of one such streetcar.

Streetcars in New Orleans have been an integral part of the city's public transportation network since the first half of the 19th century. The longest of New Orleans' streetcar lines, the St. Charles Avenue Streetcar, is the oldest continuously operating street railway system in the world, according to the American Society of Mechanical Engineers.

This wonderful SIGNED AND NUMBERED LIMITED EDITION color photo is made from AN ORIGINAL BLACK AND WHITE PHOTOGRAPH THAT HAS BEEN HAND-COLORED by nationally recognized artist/photographer Jan Kaulins. TO SEE SIZES AVAILABLE, PRICES, AND ORDER INFORMATION, PLEASE CLINK ON THE LINK BELOW.

The quality of the Jan Kaulins' photographic prints is much higher than we can show within limits of this web site. Slight tonal changes and blurring around the areas of strong contrast are a result of the JPEG compression process, and are not part of the high quality originals.
