MISS DETROIT 1907 CIGAR BOX photo print art
Photo #814 (Use this photo number when ordering)
by Jan Kaulins
MISS DETROIT CIGAR BOX photo picture art print photograph for sale. This MISS DETROIT CIGAR BOX photo print is made from a professionally restored vintage and quite rare MISS DETROIT wooden cigar box label from about 1907-1908. This artistic Art Nouveau style Miss Detroit label was on the inside lid of the vintage cigar box. It features a wonderful portrait of a young lady holding the newly designed (in 1907) City of Detroit flag. Behind her can be see numerous boats and vessels on the Detroit River and the early skyline of Detroit after the turn of the 20th Century. Cigar box art is a rare and wonderful format in which to celebrate the City of Detroit visually. The rare original cigar box from which this image was taken was in quite poor condition before the restoration of this image. There is still a little bit of light brown 'foxing' slightly visible on this image, but was left on to give it the antique look of a 100 year old work of cigar art. The Miss Detroit brand of cigars was manufactured by Mazer Cigar Mfg. Co of Detroit. At the turn of the century, before the advent of the automobile industry changed the culture and manufacturing base of Detroit, Detroit had over a hundred cigar manufacturers operating in the city.
