The Jackson Square plaza was renamed in his honor in 1856. In the background of this New Orleans French Quarter Jackson Square photo can be seen St. Louis Cathedral, the country's oldest active cathedral, and The Cabildo, site of the signing of the 1803 Louisiana Purchase.
