OMAR THE PIE MAN New Orleans photo picture print art - Omar The Pie Man photo picture print OMAR THE PIE MAN New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival picture photo print art for sale: This color OMAR THE PIE MAN picture photo was made from an original black and white photograph that has been hand-colored by nationally acclaimed artist/photographer Jan Kaulins. This photo of Omar The Pieman was taken in the early morning at Omar's Pie booth during The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival several years ago. Omar Bin-Abdul Aziz, better known as Omar The Pie Man throuoghout New Orleans. In the spring before Katrina hit, the New Orleans City Council voted to dedicate $10,000 to create a memorial to Omar the Pie Man at the legendary and popular New Orleans French Market.

Omar The Pie Man began his business in New Orleans in the early 1960's, where he would sell his wondeful pies from his truck at the French Quarter French Market. As his clientele and reputation grew, in the 1970's Omar was invited to sell his pies at The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival, which he did for many years. This original Omar The Pieman picture photo of him at The New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is a wonderful image of a man who made his dream of becoming the pie king of New Orleans come true. In this photo Omar The Pieman, wearing a colorful flowery shirt and wide brimmed straw hat, is proudly standing in front of his Omar's Pies cart filled to the brim with sweet smelling delicious pies as he awaits the opening of the gates to another New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival. His truck is parked behind his stand and the hand made cardboard signs on each side of him attached to the poles holding up the Omar's Pies sign, shows his many offerings, including his legendary Sweet Potato Pie, Pecan, and Bean Pie. Omar The Pie Man was born in 1919 and passed on in 2002, but his pie tradition is being carried on my family and friends.

At the New Orleans French Market at the site of the proposed statue of the New Orleans culinary icon is a plaque that reads: "...Omar the Pie Man's optimistic entrepreneureal spirit is epitomized by his motto 'No one should go through life without getting their piece of the pie. Their piece of The American Dream.' "

The quality of the Jan Kaulins' photographic prints is much higher than we can show within limits of this web site. Slight tonal changes and blurring around the areas of strong contrast are a result of the JPEG compression process, and are not part of the high quality originals.
