GANDY DANCER Ann Arbor photo art print art photography for sale of GANDY DANCER Restaurant photo art print. ANN ARBOR GANDY DANCER RESTAURANT photo fine art photograph prints for sale. This is a unique portrait of the former historic Ann Arbor train depot that many years ago was turned into the upscale eatery, The Gandy Dancer. The location by the railroad tracks on one side and old red brick paved streets on the other side make this a unique setting. This dramatic photographic portrait of the Gandy Dancer in Ann Arbor was captured during a stormy day with sun rays shooting through a small opening in the clouds on to the front of this beautiful building. On one end of the building can be seen the American flag furriously waving in the high wind.

ANN ARBOR PHOTO ART PRINT PHOTOGRAPH FOR SALE. Ann Arbor MI HDR photo photography art prints photos by artist photographer Mr. Jan Kaulins for sale.

These are original High Dynamic Range (HDR) color photographs created by nationally recognized award winning artist/photographer Jan Kaulins. These HDR photos are the newest artistic images in his most recent series of photography. Each photograph has BEEN CREATED FROM NINE SEPARATE BRACKETED DIGITAL EXPOSURES and then layered together into one photographic image. It is then ‘tone-mapped’ where individual areas of the photo, as well as contrast, saturation and other qualities of the image can be artistically manipulated to bring out the artistic effects that make these photos so visually unique and striking. Some of the photos in this series are even further digitally enhanced for artistic effect giving them an almost painterly or graphic silkscreened look. They do not look like your grandmothers traditional photos. These photos are however not hand-colored, like Jan’s other photographic series shown on this website. This is an entirely new process is being used.

This is a relatively new photographic technique which uses the blending of NINE BRACKETED DIGITAL EXPOSURES to capture and emulate the way that light levels in the real world vary over an enormous tonal range, from the brightest area of sunlight to the darkest area in the shadows. All of these varying degrees of light cannot be exposed properly and captured in a single photograph---hence the necessity of layering and combining of the multiple over and under exposures to allow the viewer to see all of the existing areas of light at one time in one photo. The enhanced saturation and color of the multiple images also is a partial result of this very unique photographic process and can be quite stunning and dramatic. Sometimes these artistic Jan Kaulins photos blur the sense of reality and illusion. The quality of the Jan Kaulins' photographic prints is much higher than we can show within limits of this web site. Slight tonal changes and blurring around the areas of strong contrast are a result of the JPEG compression process, and are not part of the high quality originals.
