ONE WOODWARD AVE. DETROIT photo picture art print for sale. One Woodward Ave. Detroit Center picture art photo print. In the foreground of this color photo, made from an original black and white photograph that was hand-colored by award winning artist/photographer Jan Kaulins, we see the engraved boulders and the circular stainless steel Labor Legacy Monument, dedicated to all the workers who labored in building the city of Detroit. As we look at the center of downtown Detroit through this giant steel ring from Hart Plaza, we see in the center the highrise One Woodward Avenue Building, which was designed by Japanese-American architect Minoru Yamasaki, and completed in 1963. Yamasaki was principal in later designing another project--The World Trade Center in New York City. The distinctive narrow windows offer a magnificent view of the Detroit River and The City, yet give a sense of security to many people who experience acrophobia in high rise buildings. The three story sheets of glass that enclose the white marble lobby were the largest in the world at the time of construction. When Woodward One was completed, it was the tallest all-welded steel frame building in the world. It's appearance lends the viewer to think that it may have been a model for The World Trade Center, which was constructed several years later, between 1966 and 1973. This contemporary structure stands at the corner of Woodward and Jefferson Avenues in downtown Detroit.

The quality of the Jan Kaulins' photographic prints is much higher than we can show within limits of this web site. Slight tonal changes and blurring around the areas of strong contrast are a result of the JPEG compression process, and are not part of the high quality originals.
